Saturday, October 3rd, found thousands of people at the Penn State Snider Ag Arena. All came to the fair to learn more about the fascinating world of insects. This year's theme of 'Moth Madness' highlighted the differences between moths and butterflies and how they affect our world.

Many monetary donations from those attending the fair were greatly appreciated. These donations directly support the insect fair and help to ensure the future of this wonderful educational outreach opportunity!

Over 120 models were entered in the 2009 Great Insect Fair. Models were constructed at home and judged at the Insect Fair by three Penn State entomologists.
Honey tasting, live hive displays, and demonstrations of beekeeping techniques were available throughout the day.
Once again the insect zoo featured live specimens of everything from live honey bees, wheel bugs, exotic walking sticks, hissing cockroaches, and much more. Fair attendees were able to hold hissing cockroaches, exotic walking sticks, praying mantids and more for a closer inspection.
Children were able to color and make their own moth mask.
The Entomology Department graduate students once again created a wonderful butterfly tent with many specimens of butterflies. Lines formed throughout the day to gain entrance to the tent and hold some of the many butterflies flitting about.
Music was performed at intervals throughout the fair and play performances and insect exhibits were held at the nearby visitor's center.
