Louis's research focuses on biodiversity and systematics of Hymenoptera, the group that includes wasps, bees, and ants. His graduate work at the Frost Entomological Museum focuses on species discovery and phylogenomics of gall wasps (family Cynipidae), especially species associated with prairie remnants in midwestern North America. Louis is also passionate about educating others on the incredible diversity of Hymenoptera; he recently founded and directed the first session of the WaspID Course, which taught over 330 students about identification, biology, and preservation of wasps in January 2022.
