Penn State’s Department of Entomology seeks a Research Technologist to coordinate research, extension and outreach efforts for the Center for Pollinator Research. The successful candidate will manage and oversee approximately forty honey bee and bumble bee colonies; develop and deliver pollinator-related educational material in locally-based programs and online; support the "Pollinator Health and Policy Seminar Series" and other working groups developed by Center members; maintain lab standards, supplies and equipment; assist in molecular, chemical and behavioral analyses; may assist in managing grants and supervise wage employees and/or undergraduate students. The position is based primarily in the Grozinger lab, but the successful candidate will facilitate research efforts from other lab groups in the Center for Pollinator Research. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preference given to those with a degree in Biology or related field. Experience in Entomology or agricultural sciences preferred. Requires a high level of skill in honey bee and bumble bee biology and management. Candidates who have demonstrated ability to carry out independent research projects are preferred. Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills are essential. Successful candidate must be able to work within a team environment and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences.
