Christmas Tree Scouting Report - August 18, 2006
This will be the last update on the 2nd generation of Cryptomeria Scale for the 2006 season. Compiled by Sandy Gardosik, PA Department of Agriculture.

In Franklin and Juniata counties crawlers, 1st instar nymphs, and eggs were found when the bottom surface of needles on Canaan fir were examined. On Fraser firs in Northampton and Schuylkill counties eggs have begun to hatch and crawlers were found on the undersides of needles. At the site being monitored in Lebanon County only eggs were found when the armor covering was removed. I suspect crawlers will be active in the next few days. Two to three applications of a registered insecticide applied about 10 days apart once crawlers are active achieve good control.
