Dr. Steinbrenner received a Ph.D. in 2015 from UC Berkeley Dept. of Plant & Microbial
Biology. He worked with Dr. Eric Schmelz as an HHMI Postdoctoral Fellow from 2016-2019.
He joined the UW Biology faculty in 2019. His lab at UW studies the function and evolution
of plant cell surface receptors, focusing on mechanisms to detect chewing herbivores.
