Help document butterfly diversity in Pennsylvania! Through July 25th, submit observations of butterflies using the community science platform iNaturalist. Share your observations and they will be featured in an upcoming exhibit at the Frost Entomological Museum.

How to Participate

  1. Go outside and look for butterflies. 
  2. Record your observation using iNaturalist. 
  3. Join the Backyard Butterflies 2026 iNaturalist Project, or e-mail your observations to frost.museum@psu.edu.

Free Backyard Butterflies Open House

Saturday, July 25 | 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Frost Entomological Museum

  • Attend the opening of the Backyard Butterflies exhibit 
  • Learn about Pennsylvania's butterflies 
  • Get a sneak peek inside the museum's collections 
  • Participate in hands-on butterfly printmaking activities 
  • Make your own seed balls with native butterfly-friendly plants seeds
