General Class Schedule
This course is designed for teachers of grades K-12.
Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with evening activities indicated by an asterisk below.
Day 1, Monday
Bug Basics: a morning slide presentation followed by an afternoon in the field identifying and experiencing insects in their natural habitats
Day 2, Tuesday
Engaging in Inquiry
Roly-Poly Ruffians and Wacky Worms: series of experiments and activities for the classroom with an emphasis on environmental science
Aphids and Their Lions: second set of classroom experiments in the afternoon that will focus on prey/predator relationships and how they relate to environmentally friendly pest management
Day 3, Wednesday
Crickets and Bullies: a series of classroom experiments that demonstrate territoriality and communication in crickets
Bug Bytes: a look at computer software that is truly bugged and bountiful bug information available on the World Wide Web (lesson plan preparation time)
Wildlife Nightlife: meet the bugs of the night*
Day 4, Thursday
Bugs on Their Turf: morning field trip collecting and identifying creepy crawlies
Dirt Bugs: experiments for the classroom to solve environmental problems
Discussion/review of inquiry in your classroom
Day 5, Friday
Socializing with Insects: keeping and caring for social and solitary bugs in the classroom (lesson plan presentation by participants)
