Christmas Tree Scouting Report Pest Update
The eggs of the second generation of Cryptomeria
scale have begun to hatch in Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon
and York Counties. Now is the time to control this pest with a registered
insecticide. Since the eggs hatch over a few weeks, two or three
applications are needed 7 to 10 days apart.
This will be the last pest update for 2004. We will resume our regular scouting report for 2005 on Wednesday March 30th.
We will continue to survey for the Douglas fir needle midge throughout the summer and fall. If any grower suspects damage from this pest, please call Sandy Gardosik at 717-772-0521 so this pest can be confirmed in your county if not already documented. As to date, the following counties have been confirmed: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Lycoming, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill and York.
