You may want to keep bees for the delicious fresh honey they produce, for the benefits of their valuable services as pollinators, or perhaps simply for the enjoyment of learning more about one of nature’s most interesting insects.
MAAREC is the Mid-Atlantic Apiculture Research and Extension Consortium. It is a regional group focused on addressing the pest management crisis facing the beekeeping industry in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Includes information on methods of starting a colony, requirements based on location, handling bees, equipment, and sources of information such as fact sheets, online courses, and videos.

Conserving Wild Bees for Pennsylvania is the first brochure of the new Agroecology in Practice series authored by Tara Pisani Gareau. The 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 four color publication includes practical guidelines for land managers on how to conserve wild bees for improved crop production through habitat enhancements, conservation of nesting sites, and judicious use of pesticides. The brochure folds out to an 11" x 17" poster with colorful, high resolution pictures of wild bees found in Pennsylvania along with a table of Pennsylvania native plants shown in PSU research to be attractive to bees.
